Peace ~ Pst. Adesoji Oni
Text: John 14:27
Speaker: Pastor Adesoji Oni
Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. (KJV)
Peace is freedom form disturbances, it is a state or period which there is no war, or war has ended.
God’s kind of peace differs, the kind of peace God talks about is that even in the mist of troubles, there is a peace that floods your hearts and gives you confidence to keep going on.
This is the kind of peace the bible says it’s the peace that surpass human understanding.
Several unexpected things have happened these year, from the pandemic to other crisis but we still have our peace. Peace is one of the most intangible thing in this world, it is something money cannot buy.
Jesus said two things we need to point out:
- Peace I leave with you.
- My peace I give unto you.
Peace is not just peace, in other words, there is a difference, understand that the peace I am talking about is not just peace that is literally seen, but the peace that gives you confidence even when trouble is looming around.
He said “not as the world giveth, I give unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid”.
On the foundation of the word in Philippians 4:6-7: Paul was writing to the Philippian brethren, He said “6 Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. 7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
One of the stories I have read in the scriptures that is always interesting is in Mark 4:35-41, it is written that “in the hinder part of the boat, Jesus was sleeping and then He arose after the cries of the disciples and rebuked the wind saying peace, be still and the storm was calmed”.
He also said to them “why are ye fearful? How is it that ye have no faith?”.
The number one thing that came into my mind is that they have forgotten what the scripture says in 2 Corinthians 5:7 – (for we walk by faith, not by sight), they saw the storm, even though the master was with them in the boat, His presence made no difference to them, because they were walking by what they were seeing.
If you must go far in life, you must live beyond what you see to embracing the presence of God and lifting it above the situation and circumstances of life, otherwise, there is no difference between us and the people of the world.
Why Jesus was supposedly sleeping, He was still in charge and at alert and he knew that the storm will not take away His creator, so why should He bother Himself.
It was reported that Jesus was sleeping but I know He was probably meditating, why am I saying that?
Let’s look at Psalm 121:3-4 (3He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: He that keepeth thee will not slumber. 4Behold, He that keepeth Israel shall neither sleep nor slumber). So how can He be sleeping?
THINGS THAT CAN HELP US OUT IN BUILDING OUR STRENGTH WHEN THERE IS TROUBLE
- Don’t live or work on your own, follow His instruction. (John 2:5, Proverbs 3:6), Work by divine instruction.
- When you step out, don’t leave him behind. Don’t leave God out of the equation of your life. (Joshua 1:17, Isaiah 43:1-2).
- Hold on to God’s Words (Numbers 23:19, Isaiah 55:11). Anything God has said settles everything.
- Know Him intimately (Daniel 11:32, Philippians 3:8).
- Trust in His love (Matthew 7:9-11). Even if you are laboring in His vain yard don’t think it is in vain because you will reap it to the point that even after your death, your descendants will still enjoy it like the story of Abraham’s Blessings.
But God commanded His love towards us, in that, while we were yet sinners Christ died for us. (Romans 5:7-8). That is the CLIMAX OF PEACE.
Let me enjoy the fullness of your peace as promised Lord!
PRAYER OF SALVATION
Father I thank you for my life, I ask that you glorify Jesus in my life today and let me enjoy the fullness of your peace as you have promised me. Thank you father, in Jesus mighty name, AMEN!
