INTRODUCTION
Righteousness in the sight of God, means doing that which is right unto the Lord. And it is interesting to note that it’s not just about living a holy life; holiness talks about obeying God, and the Lord is so particular about our doing good work.

We must realize that we are all created to do good. The reason you are brought forth is to do good. Ephesians 2:10 “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.”

When you wake each morning, you must realize that the reason you are breathing and have the privilege of life, is to do good. By the time you go to bed, ask yourself; Have I done good today?

We are created to do good, as if you read the second part of Ephesians 2:10, the bible says “God has ordained it to be so” He has commissioned us to do good. God gives us opportunities to do good; He’ll allow some people to connect with us, so that we could fulfil His desire for us to do good. We were created for good works. Been commissioned to do good means He has released the grace to us to do good.

Doing good is not only a commission but also a command. 1 John 3:17-18 “But whoso hath this world’s good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him. My little children, let us not love I work, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth”. When Jesus said I must do the works of him that sent me while it is day, his emphasis was Must because it is a command. How did he do the work – Acts 10:38 “How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power, who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him”. Doing good was Jesus’ trade mark. Beloved, we are created to do good. We are commissioned to good; we are commanded to do good, as it is an instruction.

WHAT DO WE NEED TO DO?

  1. We should provoke ourselves to do good. Hebrews 10:24 “And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works”. When we don’t do good to people, we give room wicked men to come into their lives and make them a menace to the society. We must not get tired of doing good Gal. 6:9 “Let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.”
  2. We should be consistent and committed to doing good whenever we have the opportunity to. Gal. 6:10 “As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto theme who are of the household of faith” Titus 2:14 “Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify uno himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works”
  3. We must have the right motive when doing good works. Heb. 13:21 “Make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is well-pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever Amen”.

Beloved, if we don’t do good works, the enemy will take over the destinies of people.

WHAT IS GOOD WORKS?
i. Good works are those works that please God. Heb. 13:21 “Make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is well-pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever Amen”. We are created to bring pleasure to God Rev. 4:11 “Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou art created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.”
ii. Good works promotes the well-being of others. Acts 9 tells us about Dorcas, a woman that excelled in good works. When she died, it was the prayers of these she had affected that brought her back to life.
iii. Good works provokes praise unto God. Matt 6:16 “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your goods works and glorify your father which is in heaven”.

I will like to challenge everyone; irrespective of your age, sex or status, you should resolve in your heart to excel good works. You should resolve in your heart to excel in good work. It is a privilege for God to choose you to do good works. So, whenever you are opportune to do good work, see it as a privilege.

Above all, God is not only interested in our good works, but He wants us to be unspotted from this world. James 1:27 “Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, to visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unpotted from the world”. Ephesians 5:27 “That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.”

When the trumpet sounds now, will the Lord say to you and I – well-done good and faithful servant, enter into the joy of the Lord. You’ve not just excelled in good works only but you kept yourself holy.

It is my prayer that each and everyone of us will be qualified for heaven on that day.

Prayer point:
 My Father, my father, please help me to excel in good works
 Lord, help me to be a blessing to multitudes – hundreds, thousands and many more
 Oh Lord, if there is any defilement in my life that doesn’t glorify you, let it be uprooted
