Topic: Easter Sermon
Text: John 19:28-30
John 19:28-30(KJV)

28 After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scriptures might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst. 29 Now there was set a vessel full of vinegar: and they filled a spunge with vinegar, and put it upon hyssop, and put it to his mouth. 30 When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, it is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.

INTRODUCTION

Prayer: My Father! My Father! By the reason of the blood that was shed in the cross, everything that is not of God in my life, I declare and decree, IT IS FINISHED. In Jesus name, Amen!

Jesus was sentenced to death without sin, all was to the fulfillment of the scriptures. He was made to go through the cross because we are supposed to be redeem, so when ever you hear the cross, it signifies SALVATION, REDEMPTION, RESTORATION, RECOVERY, RECONCILATION BACK TO GOD.

Everything that you have ever experienced or witnessed, can be traced to the cross. The Bible tells us that Pilate wrote something on the cross of Jesus and the only offence that Jesus had was that Jesus claimed to be the King. Unfortunately, Pilate did not understand the kingship Jesus was referring to, he taught Jesus was referring to the king of the Jews and that’s why he wrote “JESUS OF NAZARETH, THE KING OF THE JEWS”, but Jesus was actually referring to the fact that He was the King of Kings.

Jesus died for you and I, He suffered shame, pain, He was flogged and beaten, the crown of thorns was placed on His head. He shed His blood so that we can be saved, so that we can have redemption.

ASPECTS ON THE REASON WHY JESUS DIED FOR US

  1. Jesus died for us so that we can be reconciled:Romans 5:10-12 God is a God of relationship; Jesus endured the shame so we can reconcile back to God. 2 Corinthians 5:17-19, John 10:10.
  • The Cross is not just about salvation, it’s about restoration, it’s about substitution, it’s about replacement. And God is substituting Death for Life, Poverty for Abundance 2 Corinthians 8:9, Sorrow for Joy Isaiah 53:4, Curses for Blessings Galatians 3:13.
  • Jesus died to redeem us: Hebrews 9:22, Leviticus 17:11, I Peter 1:18-19, we were redeemed by the precious blood of Christ without blemish and spot.

CONCLUSION

Everything about us can be linked to the cross, for the first time God took His eye off Jesus because He was bearing our sins and God cannot behold sin. Jesus took everything that is not of God in our lives so that we can be free.

Death has no power over Christ, he died once to break the power of sin and now he lives for the glory of God. You are now dead to sin and alive for the glory of God. Do not let sin control the way you live.

PRAYER

Talk to the Lord, pray with the revelation of the depth of the sacrifice He made at the cross. Romans 6:7-12.

PRAYER OF RECONCILATION/SALVATION

Our Father and our God we thank you today, thank you for your love, thank you for your faithfulness, thank you because of your death and your resurrection. Lord we ask from our heart that whatever it is that we need to be faithful, whatever it is that we need to be righteous to live Holy, grant it unto us.

Salvation Declaration: Father Lord, I thank you for your love, thank you for dying for me, thank you for shedding your blood for my sin. Lord accept me as your child and I accept you as my Lord and savior. Remove my name from the book of death, write my name in the book of life, thank you father. In Jesus name, Amen!
