First, I want to say that everyone has an attribute of faith. You exhibit a trait of faith, you might not know it, but it’s inherent. So, you enter a bus and believe your bus driver will take you from your present point to your destination. When you go to a food vendor, you don’t know if the food has been poisoned, but you have faith that what you are getting from the food vendor is going to nourish you. Everyone of us has traits of faith.

Today we are not going to be talking about faith in the normal aspect of life, but we will be looking at faith in God.

What exactly is Faith?

Dictionary meaning of faith: Faith is the confidence or trust in the intentions or abilities of a person or object. So when you enter your car, you have faith that the car will take you to your destination without accident.

What does the Bible say about faith?

Hebrews 11:1 (NLT) Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen. It gives us assurance about things that we cannot see. It is the evidence that things will happen.

If you have to see, if you have to touch before you believe, that’s not faith. For us to have faith in our Christian life, we must believe in things that we have not yet seen. Permit me to say this: “Faith is the material for production in the invincible”. When you want pull out things from the invincible to the visible, faith is the material you need. And, everything that is visible was once invincible.

Guess what?

Faith is totally free. All you need to do is, walk into the invincible and believe, then you have it. You don’t have to pay anything, you don’t have to bribe anyone, all you need to do is believe. The contemporary English version of Mark 11:24 tells us that “Everything you ask for in prayer will be yours if only you have faith”. The condition is have faith.

But faith in God comes with a price.

THE PRICE FOR FAITH IN GOD

1.            You will have to put out all your defence and be vulnerable to God. The average man don’t like to be vulnerable. The mistake we make is that when we go to God in prayer we go with an alternative plan. So we ask God in prayer, I need this, I need that, but in our mind, we say – well, if this doesn’t happen, I will do it like this. That’s not faith. Faith doesn’t have any backup plan. You must be ready to be vulnerable, that if God doesn’t do it, so be it.

The moment You begin thinking of a Backup plan, you’ve taken away the element of faith, and you are gambling; you are like “let me just try God first, but if I don’t get it in 2 months time, I’ll probably find another way”.

The Bible in Genesis 12 tells us a story of Abraham (Genesis 12:1-4). Leave thy country, kindred, and father’s house. Here is a man that has left his country and is now vulnerable. In working in faith, you don’t have to be comfortable. If you are waiting for comfort, you are not ready. If you want to walk in faith, you have to be vulnerable.

2.            In Walking in Faith, You’ll be perceived Crazy. If you are walking in faith people will call you stupid. The case of Noah is a perfect example. How can a man be building an Ark so big as that, in such a time that there is no flood?

So, if God has asked you to do something in faith, do it even if it means people calling you stupid. People will say you are crazy but if it’s God that asked you to do it, do it.

If you are walking in faith, one good thing you can do for yourself is to Carry the people around you and teach them to work in faith. This is because faith is not just for you.

As I round up, I would mention that in the journey of Faith, it is possible to trust God genuinely for something and you don’t get it.

From the sincerity of your heart you could ask God for something and not get it but faith demands that you still hold on to God (Heb. 11:13; 35-40)

Not everything you prayed for in faith, will eventually come. But even if you didn’t get what you asked in your entire life time, let it not be said of you that you didn’t believe. Let it be that you obtain a good report through faith.

Faith is a necessity for every Christian. It is a necessity to live in this life.

Prayer Point:

Father, help me. Help me to live my lifetime depending and believing on you.
